Conveniently located within the Randburg CBD, one of Johannesburg’s largest suburbs, this little hotel is goldmine for affordable and stylish. Don’t let the external vicinity deceive you. Within it’s walls is a stunning Grecian style conferencing centre that makes you feel like you travelled to Greece’s sparkling blue city.
I didn’t get to stay at this hotel. But I was keen to explore it’s facilities which after a few emails, got me standing in front of two beautiful ladies at the reception desk. They were warm, friendly and both seemed eager to get me sorted on my private tour. The outside of the hotel is deceiving and certainly does not do the hotel any justice. Randburg has faced some down time over the years but the hotel’s lobby makes up for it in so many ways.
With just over 60 rooms, this property is ideal for group events. The double rooms are spacious for colleagues that don’t mind (or are forced to) share a room. The standard rooms have a great view of Johannesburg North which must be spectacular on a cool, summer night when the lights turn on, and the city comes alive. Each bathroom comes with both a bath tub and a shower to satisfy your shower before a meeting or end of day bubble soak.
Randburg is a busy little suburb and grabbing a bite to eat you’re on the grind is not only healthy but recommended. The Apollo offers a great selection of buffets to suit every budget. As it is privately owned and managed, tailoring food to suit the client’s needs is a value-add most hotels don’t ever consider.
7/10 – Harmony is a Greek word. And the Apollo Hotel definitely puts an emphasis on balance with its decor, colour, and effortless style. This hotel is designed for conferencing and not much has gone into entertaining leisure guests. With that said – not ideal for little kids who love playing outdoors. But for business travellers, this is a great place to work and stay in Randburg, Johannesburg!
